Appalachian Coffee Roasters is located in the borough of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. They are a specialty coffee roaster focused on roasting single source coffee beans from around the world. "We want our coffee to be part of a great start to your day." Owner Scott Miller contacted PVT to build out his plan of a perfect coffee vending trailer in an Airstream platform. Detailed plans and 3D renders were created by Lana Zoet at BNIM Architects and the build began.
Kirei board was specified for the cabinet fronts. This specialty plywood is made from reclaimed sorghum straw. It was also used for the 'fin accents' above the bar.
Features of this mobile cafe include stainless countertops, a dishwashing sink toward the back and a multi-purpose sink in the front. Plexiglass panels neatly slide into the serving window when needed to keep weather or bugs out. Under the counter is a commercial Beverage-Air refrigerator. Other ammenities were also built in such as three stainless cup dispensers, ice bin, a 3 bay lid dispenser and several stainless rimmed trash receptacle openings in the countertop.
The plans specified a custom window hatch that extended down lower to ease access for customers. A two level shelf just inside the hatch opening is ready for four coffee airpot dispensers. Indirect LED track lighting keeps the counters lit without glare.
The rear of the trailer performs triple duty containing a toilet and sink, a separate boxed off compartment for the generator and a cupboard with all the electronics to control the roof mounted solar system. With multiple power sources, this trailer is set up to easily work locations that are 'off the grid.'
